| ABOUT THE 'LAZY Z' In the mid 1880's, Doyle Glass' great grandfather, O.B. Holt, traveled from Waco, Texas to the small railroad community of Midland, Texas. With him, he had over two hundred head of cattle. His dream was to make it as a cattleman on the wide West Texas plains. He lived in a sod hut for over five years, tending to his cattle and protecting them from marauding Comanches, thieves, predators and the ever present lack of water. Holt made it. His ranch survives today as part of the Lazy Z Ranch owned and operated by the Glass family of Midland, Texas. Cattle is still the business of the Lazy Z, and it's brand is burned into their hides every summer. That brand appears at the top of this page and on every bronze sculpture and painting created by Doyle Glass. The proud tradition of the Lazy Z will be carried on for generations to come. |
