| Doyle Glass was born in Midland, Texas in 1962. A sixth generation
Texan, his family has a rich pioneering heritage that, in Texas, dates back to the days of the Republic. He had an ancestor who died at the Alamo, another who was a Texas Ranger in Sul Ross' command, a soldier who fought at Gettysburg and a pioneer cattleman, to name a few.
The values held by his family were a great influence on Glass as he grew up. Art has also been a great influence on Glass' life. His parents were avid collectors of western and wildlife bronzes and paintings. Glass begandrawing at an early age. Wildlife, especially birds of prey, and children were his favorite subjects. "In 1994, Doyle turned to sculpture after meeting sculptor Vic Payne at Mountain Trails Gallery in Santa Fe. Vic was working on a sculpture titled "Across the Raging Red". Vic gave Doyle some clay and a video of his father, Ken, sculpting. Doyle bought an edition of "Across the Raging Red" and, within six weeks, Doyle had created his first sculpture. The rest is history." |
Glass'goal in sculpture is to interpret the values that he holds dear into each piece of work. "High and Dry", for example, illustrates the inseparable bond between a girl and her horse. "El Borrego Cimmaron" shows the Desert Bighorn ram as the rugged survivalist. Glass' current work, a monument of Medal of Honor recipient John Squires, will be dedicated to the valor and heroism of all American soldiers.
Glass attended Southern Methodist University, where he received bachelor of arts and juris doctor degrees. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his son Jake. As always, his family is his true inspiration. ![]() |
